chillies germinated on cold windowsill

Rules are made to be broken, eh?

After telling all and sundry that chillies need about 18C* to germinate and grow happily, my Razzmatazz have only gone and sown themselves on a windowsill (admittedly south-facing) without heat and with pretty low night-time temps.

The seedlings are an inch high now and more are coming through daily.

* btw, does anyone know how I can get a little 'degree' symbol?

i managed some like this last year, i think it also depends on the variety (chinese, etc)...a prop will increase chances but isnt necessary... Nice one!

I sow everything tender on a windowsill. I do bring them onto the dining table at night though.

a degrees symbol is apparantly the keystroke ALT+0176 but I can never get them to work, so I just load up "charmap" (if using windows) - find it and copy/paste: °

How long ago did you sow them?

About 10 days ago when I was picking dead leaves and greenfly off the mother plant. I just sprinkled a few of the dried pods into the same pot "just to see"

does work leave out the + bit....ie if you pres Alt and with it held you then press 0176 it will appear when you release the Alt key

If not try it with the number lock on.

There are a few sites with the Alt codes 'key XL' is one

I never knew the degree one so thank you for that.

The easiest way is hold down ALT and type 248 on the number pad.

I potted up 6 different chillies, but couldn't get them to germinate so I put a pot on the radiator. Sure enough it germinated so I moved the other 5 onto it and 4 of those did, but the fourth wouldn't.
So I put two new seeds into it and put it back on.

Knocked the whole pot off last night!
I cobbled the compost back into the pot, but no idea where within it the seeds are.
Fingers crossed.
