Flower sprout(brand new vegetable)

I got a new marshalls seed catalogue in the post today & it was advertising this new vegetable

I may be doing this an injustice but I reckon I have been growing this for years. The only difference is that I call them blown sprouts

Anybody got any experience of these.

I think you are absolutely spot on, they look like blown sprouts to me, I eat mine as well, treat them like mini cabbages.

was doing a bit of research on these new veg & found the following

Flower Sprout is a brand new vegetable developed by Tozer Seeds. Released commercially in 2009 the Flower Sprout is a cross between Brussels Sprout and Kale. Tozer’s started experimenting with different parent lines in 1995, utilizing both red and green Brussels Sprouts and various Kales. Traditional hybridization techniques were used in the production of this new vegetable.

The plant habit is similar to Brussels Sprouts, a tall stem with rosettes forming all the way up to a frilly-leaved top. Extremely winter hardy and with a similar cropping calendar to sprouts the harvest window stretches from October to early March from mid-March sowings. The taste is milder and sweeter than a Brussels Sprout with a good texture. It is an ideal winter vegetable and can be steamed, stir-fried or microwaved.

You can buy Flower Sprouts from Marks & Spencer food stores in the UK.

If they are good enough for M&S then they will do for me. I like a lot of folks get blown sprout so they should be easy to grow. Still at £2.75 for 30 seeds they are an expensive brassica.

Must say- I rather like the look of those....think that could well be my next year's 'guest' veg!
( milder flavoured than the sprout...hmm might go down well at Xmas Dinner for those peeps who don't enjoy sprouts!)

As an afterthought, I'd have thought they could have 'used' the idea of peeps saying they hate sprouts- and given it a different name- to keep the name 'sprout' I'd have thought was a negative marketing ploy if they were hoping to tempt new customers!!

I went to the garden center to drool this faternoon, and just on the off-chancelooked for these seeds, lo and behold they were there.
so i got some..hee hee!!
the pack says they taste morelike cabbage than sprout...we'll see.

Brand New type of Brassica? - 'Flower Sprouts'

I've just had an email from Marshalls promoting what they are calling 'A NEW vegetable variety'. It seems to be a cross between kale and brussel sprouts?!

Anybody else seen it? What do you think? Seems like a very odd cross to me, not quite sure I can see the point of it - it's like kale growing up the side of the brussels sprout stalk. In my experience (not huge admittedly ) it looks like Red brussels sprouts where the sprout has 'blown'... Hmmmm

Spotted these a while ago and dismissed them as a gimmick.

I got the same email Sarz but I think I'll wait until I get all the raving reports from vine members NEXT year who have grown them THIS year!

Probably save myself some time and money if I've guessed right!

PS I realise now why the email wasn't sent out on April 1st!

LOL Glad someone thinks the same as me

I'm tempted to grow some Falstaff brussels and not tread them in firmly enough, then leave the inevitable blown sprouts to grow into small heads... Just to see if I can get a similar plant/pic to the one for this 'new' veg..

T & M also have them and i got a packet from the GC the other day. Will give them a go and report back. Thought they may be a good idea. Don't know as they taste like sprouts though.
