  • Germinating orange squash pumpkin

Is that the name of them?
    I Googled but found nothing.

Squashes will be sown in April, because they are tender and can't go outside until May. They grow really fast too, so you don't want them taking over your windowsills

If it's called a pumpkin then it's probably a winter squash but I don't know for sure.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Now I'm really confused - I treat all squashes the same - winter or summer. Is this wrong?
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

I see that you are in Fife, and you would be advised not to plant out in the final position till the beginning of June, because of the danger of frost. Even then, give the plants some cloche protection for the first few weeks, in case there are cold east winds blowing off the sea.
It is almost certainly a Winter squash.

Basically, Summer squashes are used early before they are fully mature. Winter squashes are grown till they are mature, hardened off in late Autumn and stored to be used through the Winter. I am still eating my Winter squashes, which are sweet and nutty tasting. The sowing and growing methods are similar for both types.
