I was out with the dog this morning and under the leaves of a snowcovered brusselsprout I found dark wrinkly wizened lumps, rather like short bits of twig two or three inches long but not that solid. More kind of flaky (imagine a short cigar when you roll it between your fingers - but not that fat), and a darker shade of brown, almost black. There was a sticky residue left on my fingers after I had handled them.
I just wondered - are these slugs that have frozen in the cold ?
Where do slugs go when the weather turns snowy ? Not underground - surely they cannot dig through frozen soil...even moles have difficulty. Don't tell me slugs create all these wee tunnels that I see in the snow in the garden !
