  • advice on chillies please

Hi there folks, when I got in from work the OH had been watching ITVs daily cooks challenge. He tells me there was a mexican recipe using 2 types of chillies. Supposedly one of the chillies mentioned had a chocolate flavour. The two mentioned were pasilla & ancho. I appreciate it's April fools day but I was wondering if there is such a thing as a chocolate tasting chillie. However I fully suspect it turning out to be a wind up. If by any stretch of the imagination this should prove to be true can anybody please let me know which of these two varieties is the chocolate one as OH wants me to get some to try.
    thanks

Sounds like an April Fool to me, I have an extensive collection of chillies and to my knowledge there isn't one that tastes of chocolate...But it would be nice if there were

I saw the program and it was the Pasilla that AWT referred to as being "chocolatey", then Gino responded that it was "smokey". I don't think it was an April fool, just AWT taking a bit of peotic license.

Here's a link to the recipe:

And here's a link to an article about Pasilla:

You can get chocolate flavoured with chilli. And very dark chocolate is often added to authentic Mole dishes. You know, it might be that a few wires had been crossed, but I seem to have heard of a chocolate chilli. 'Course, it may well be the Chocolate coloured Habenero that BK mentioned.
There are plenty of other things that smell or taste of chocolate. - Mint, Cosmos etc, so I don't see why there couldn't be a chocolate chilli.

I have some Chocolate Habenero Chilli seeds if you'd like me to send you a few for you to try? They're a lovely chocolate colour when there ripe ( not my photo) but VERY hot.

Ginger, how big do the plants and actual chillis get? I quite fancied trying the white one but thought they looked quite big from pictures I have seen? (I can only get so many chillis in my house!!)

Pasilla Bajio are what is used in traditional mole sauces, the sauce does contain chocolate, i think. The peppers also mature to a chocolate colour...

I have some growing...we'll see in a few months

Now I'm jumping up and down-I'm growing both of chillies from the recipe-Pasilla and Ancho because against all the hot hot hot trends I decided to go for flavour
BTW,thanks for the link-the recipe looks very nice
