Building a frame.

What did you use ?
How tall ?
Do the sides need to be clear or can you use full wood and even insulate with polystyrene blocks.
How does the top lift / come off ?
What's the top made of.
Etc etc.

What sort of frame?

A big cold frame that might be a hot frame if you fill it underneath with hot manure.
3 foot by 6 foot perhaps need info.

I Googled 'cold frame design' and got loads of results; why not have a look through and see if anything grabs your attention.

OK but wanted some personal experiences.

Oh right - well I just use whatever is to hand; bricks, wood, plastic containers, polystyrene containers and pop some glass or a plastic cover on it and put my seedlings in it. I'll use whatever is to hand.

I'm sure someone will be along with their personal experiences; but I often find that you will modify it as you go and build things to suit your own needs.

Looking round the lottie they are a great mixture. One is built using empty 2ltr bottles, they are going to do a greenhouse this year. Others are wood, bricks, corrugated iron and one is 4 straw bales with an old patio door on top.

I have recently built a cold frame for early potatoes, 6' X18" by 2.6' high. Wooden planks for first 1' then used 4mm twin walled polycorbonate (PC) sheeting for the rest. The PC is very easy to cut and can be screwed to wood, you will need some greenhouse tape to seal the ends of the PC to stop beasties getting in and making a home. Potatoes are in bags and are just starting to poke through the soil.
