Help! Leggy squash seedlings

Title says it really

I know you can bury the stem of leggy tomatoes and chillies to produce a sturdier plant. Would this work for squash as well?

They're currently about 4 inches high, have 1 pair of leaves and are falling about all over the place

Anythings worth a try, but be prepared to sow some more. Where have you got them ?

My DD sowed a pumpkin seed at the recent seed swap at the allotment association stall, mid Feb. We thought it was a waste of time after a month no sign - then it came shooting up and I have re-potted it twice now - I usually bury some of the stem each time. However pumpkins and squashes are quite big plants, so be prepared!

No, do not bury the stem of curcubits...they notoriously rot....(unlike toms that readily root from anywhere on the stem)

cool their boots!...unheated greenhouse available?...if not try outside in a sheltered bright spot during the day and then in at night.

it's too early to be sowing squash - they grow big, fast so you'll have to house them until they can go outside in May

TBH the BNS and the scallop squash say to sow from March although the courgettes are from April. Not sown courgettes yet but the BNS and scallops are up and in the greenhouse in throw away coffee cups.

Thanks for all the input, I only put them in 8 days ago (still a bit early, I know), cool conservatory (fortunately large). I've never seen anything shoot up so fast!

Maybe they're actually triffids in disguise?

It was DD at the seed swap, and I was just amazed that it grew at all. No worries about it growing big, I have plenty of space in conservatory until it can go out (might get a bigger pumpkin for halloween...)
