  • maggots...

    hey guys,

i was just pulling my parsley plant from last year out of my herb container, when i noticed a tiny maggot. as i looked closer i saw lots of them and ive just spent 20mins picking the little blighters out of the pot. i got about 30 of them. they were tiny white maggots with orange faces. i dont suppose anyone knows what they might be?

ive got other herbs still in the container so i was wondering should i take out the other plants and check all the compost in there for maggots, or do you think they will be ok and that i should let nature do its thing. how harmful will the maggots be?

Personally I would check all of them and get rid of the little critters....they cant be doing any good in the roots of your plants!

Feed them to the birds, I think they are vine weevil larvae and fatal to your plants.

Sound like vine weevils to me too. I would empty out the compost and put in new. Check the root ball of the plant because I found several in there. I would also check the other containers.

Best bet is to remove everything (not your clothes!) and wash the roots of the plants before potting in fresh compost.

Yup, vine weevil. Can use a compost drench against them if you use chemicals - Provado is the trade name.
