I've got two Marmande toms starting to flower and I wasn't too sure about pinching off the flowers but after doing a search and finding this thread it looks like I can leave the plants alone.

THanks for drawing attention to this thread Bren in Pots.

A Latah tomato of mine is starting to flower...

Does TomatoKing's advice still hold? (after a whole year in which horticultural science has galloped onwards)

i.e. give a little Nitrogen feed to early flowering Toms.

I thought i'd bump this rather than start my own thread..

I have mamande plants that are about 18 inches tall, have plenty of dark green foliage and are about to flower, I too was thinking of pinching out these early flowers, i'd like another couple of feet at least to get a good crop, am I right in thinking they may stop growing as much if all their effort goes into flowering!?

They are planted out in a warm greenhouse.

          Any advice would be superb!!

I don't pinch out my first flowers, and the plants get over 6 ft tall (which is when I stop them)

Gardeners Delight - Sowed 27th Feb - Tall stems, lush green leaves, no flowers.
Nectar F1 - Sowed 12th Mar - Short stems, dark green leaves, flowers everywhere.

Weird, but happy to carry on looking after them

I wouldn't pinch out the flowers at all. They grow every so often along the stem. If you pinch out these early ones, you'll just get a few trusses near the top. You really want them all the way up!

I have "outdoor girl" tomatoes with lot's of flowers on them, so today I've potted them on into 12" pot's. Next time they get moved on...there going into there final position. I never nip out any of the flowers, but I do stop them growing when they reach 5ft.
