What else can I grow?

Ok, ill admit it. Ive been bitten...
Last year I grew a few bits, then this year, i've gone a bit mental and started claiming bits of the lawn for growing things

But, as Ive done this, ive just been growing more of the same things that Id previously grown and now Im looking to branch out (no pun intended)

I currently grow:

Peas
Beans
Courgettes
Beetroot (not v successfully)
Kale
Garlic
Lettuce
Toms
Radishes
Parsley
Potatoes
Carrots

and this year ive got raspberries, gooseberries and blackberries.

Anything else thats easy for a relative newbie?

Already grow runner beans, and pring onions dont seem to go too well!

How about some drying beans as well as runner and french - oh and broad beans of course.
For the more exotic tastes - Asparagus, Artichokes - globe and Jerusalem. How about a nice strawberry patch as well?

I dont have the patience for asparagus

What about some pot's with your favourite herbs in?
Why not try Chard, Mange tout, a Blueberry bush or grow your own cucumbers, Pak Choi...there all easy to grow, even for a newbie's. And don't forget, were all here to help

Like you Fatman, I've been digging up the lawn!
Have had to be a tad sneaky about this, because the OH still has this silly idea about sunbathing on the lawn!!

One of the VERY best crops to grow are runner beans.........grow them well and you will have beans to fill the freezer for next winter AND you can't buy the equivalent in the supermarket.
I sow "Enorma " in pots at the end of April..plant out 9inches apart in double rows, 18inches apart mid/end of May, supported by 2 rows of criss/crossed canes with a horizontal/central support cane. I use ties made from old tights/stockings to construct the frame.
I can also grow crops of raddish/lettuce in the middle of the bean framework. They are up and harvested before the beans grow and shade them.

Have you considered growing rocket?
If you like the taste of it, it's dead easy to grow either in containers, or to pop into odd spots in the garden.

Some flowers - marigolds and nasturtiums are good companion plants. Some sweet peas too with your other beans.

Salad leaves - if you eat salad, will save you a lot of money

Herbs - I grow basil in the same pot as my tomatoes, very easy

Definitely sweetcorn, I loved shop bought sweetcorn until I cooked my home grown stuff within 1 minute of picking. Unbelievable how good it is!!
