Is it enough to just lay some fleece on top of carrots to keep out carrot fly or will that stifle their growth? I have carrots planted in amongst onions, garlic, chives, and radishes and right now I have fleece draped over all of it (except some of the bigger onion shoots) to keep off the birds (I learned that lesson quickly when I found a bunch of radishes and onion sets pulled up and scattered about). Can I just keep it like that and the things will grow and naturally push the fleece up? Or is it better if I erect something around the edge and lay the fleece on top of that to keep it off the growing plants?

You can just lay the fleece on top -but leave a little bit of slack. And remeber to weigh down the sides and ends, or the litle buggers will get in that way.Rat
