  • Where do I out my poatoes to chit them?

I've got some Charlotte salad potatoes and some second early ones as well ( can't remember their name). I know they need light to chit but do they need warmth as well. I think the windowsill would be too hot for them but the greenhouse isn't heated so would that be too cold?

I've got a wire shelf rack in front of the patio door in the the dining room all set up to start my seedlings on but don't think there will be room on that for the so where is the best place.

Seconded - bright and cold, rose end (with most sprouts) upwards, not touching, with a good air flow around them (in eggboxes, basket, tray or rack). If you want them to speed up chitting a little nearer to planting time, put them somewhere a little warmer. The main problem in this weather is keeping them cool enough!

I've got mine in the Conservatory (posh talk for the back porch). It is unheated but frost free, nice and light, and getting very cramped. I've got a 3 tier veg rack in there and the spuds are arranged on that.

I chit mine in the shed on egg trays by the window, so they get plenty of light.

I turn the radiator off in the guest bedroom and put the boxes on the bed. Tough if anyone wants to come and stay between now and end of April!
