  • Tea bags?

    Hello Everyone,

I hope this particular question hasn't been covered - didn't find it if so.. Who can tell me if you can put the tea bags, not just the grounds, in the compost bin? I don't know if the paper material is bio-degradeable and it doesn't say anywhere on the packaging.

We've only recently built a compost bin, our previous best effort having been a compost "pile" at the bottom of our last garden - mostly grass clippings, etc.

Attempting to do it properly now, though

    Lorna.

Lorna, you are quite correct to put the teabags on your compost intact. Every bit of them will go on to make wonderful fruit and veg thrive.

You can put teabags on, even egg shells will compost.

        tea bags

Another use for them is to stand your pot plants on a damp tea bag.

Or just peg them on the washing line, they can be reused the next day

If you save them up you can use them as as subsitute for jiffy 7's Lorna. I knew someone who used to sow his parsnips & carrots (1 seed in each) in them and then just plant the lot

Top tip, you can save the bags and refill them with tea, thus getting more use out of the bag!

                      Lorna,

The worms in my wormery adore used tea bags. I guess that your compost heap should have a few 'tigers' in it so give them a treat. I've found that ripping the bag open hastens its consumption.

ps. highly advise setting up a wormery (personal experience)

                        - well what can I say other than you have yet to experience the joy and satisfaction of digging out from the base your 1st home made black, crumbly, sweet compost!
From a pile of left over rotting veg- nature never ceases to amaze me. Fantastic!!!

Just searching around for a thread on teabags in compost and found this, I know it's an old thread but what's the best way to store them up as described above? Dry them, freeze them?

I go through 'a lot' of teabags daily and normally bin them.

                          Cheers

Hi STeALth... do you mean Andrewo's comment about reusing the bag with more tea? I have no idea.. I use up a lot of tea bags too but lob all mine in the compost big. Put them in a bowl to save a couple of day's use and put them in in one go

no about saving them to be used with carrots & parsnips, best way to save used bags for use later on compost heap or for sowing...

                              Cheers
