Distilled water will show as slightly acid. Tap water is as near as damn it pH neutral (pH7)

Well, most people don't have distilled water on tap.

The reason that I say tap water; is because it is easily accessable and some pH meters read it as highly acid or alkaline - thus proving that they are not reading correctly.

If it reads neutral for tap water; then I usually suggest a test on lemon juice and/or soap. As another calibration check.

I thought I'd bring this post up for anyone else that has this ph meter. Mine worked ok but I couldn't figure out how to read it either so I contacted wilkinsons customer services who were really good.

        Here is the response :

Thank you for your recent email and for giving me the opportunity to respond to you.

I have contact our supplier for their advice on this and they have responded as follows,

PH 1 – 2 is a reading of 4 marks each so each bar on the PH scale increases by 0.25.
PH 3 – 10 is a reading of 2 marks each so each bar on the PH scale increases by 0.5

        I hope this helps.

        Kind Regards
