Prickly carrot query

I have just opened a bag of cactus compost to sow a few cactus seeds for my younger son who just adores these odd plants. There is a lot of compost left as I couldn't find a really small bag. Can I use this to grow carrots in a bucket? It is lovely and sandy and it just occured to me that it may be suitable. I don't have very deep soil in the garden (yet) and carrots in buckets is about the only chance I have.

don,t see why not,the lady on the next plot to me had some building sand left over from a job she had done last year,she just put it in a plastic barrel
sprinkled some carrot seed on top and got carrots like HUGE.

Cheers for that Snuffy. Seemed a pity just to throw it in the compost bin.

Just be aware that cactus compost is very free-draining, so make sure your crop gets enough water. Also, if it has stones in it it may cause the roots to fork.

Can u mix it with some more water retentive material? I have been reading the thread about carrots in buckets and have sown some in the greenhouse. Growing them this way should work for u too.

Thought I would mix it with some general purpose compost. Haven't got round to doing it yet - plenty time yet - got to try and get the greenhouse built soon.
