sickley peas

Kelvedon Wonder -
I planted them out about 3 weeks ago and they were lovely strong little plants.
Now they are turning a sickly yellow - any ideas please?
some of the lower leaves are almost white and papery??

Did you start them off in pots and then plant them out? I did this last year and had the same problem as you. I later found out that they don't like to have their roots disturbed.
This year I soaked them in water and as soon as they sprouted I planted them straight out. Apparently, the mice don't like the taste once the seeds have sprouted so you get less chance of thievery if you chit them first. I think you still have time to plant some more.

They were sown in a 'gutter' and slid into place?
All worked fine last year.

I did add chicken pellets at time of planting could this be the problem - too much perhaps?

Oh dear, then I'm afraid I have no idea.
Having said that, this is only my second year growing peas so I am probably not the most experienced grape on this subject. Being the ever optimistic soul that I am, perhaps they will pick up later!

Scary I wish the mice I had in the greenhouse had read this they then would not have nipped off the half inch shoot and eaten the pea it was growing from,
I gave them some blue sweeties and now they have left me alone.

I have done the same as you HF and mine are yellowing, maybe its an Oxfordhire thing

Could be this nasty cold east wind they should pick up next week as the wind is forecast to go south west, the ground is so cold even down here in tropical dorset not even the weeds are growing yet.

Ive had problems with both broad beans and peas going yellow, only a few of the beans actually died and they do seem to be picking up now. Could be not being hardened off enough.

When the leaves whiten on plants it always makes me think they've been burnt by cold/sun/wind - I think it might still be a bit chilly for your peas. One solution is to wrap a bit of fleece over on cold nights and remove in the morning.

It shouldn't be too chilly for peas now - I've had some out since Feb. They do need a thorough hardening off first though. Outside in the day and in at night for at least a week. Outside day and night in a sheltered spot again for a week. THEN put them in where you want them.
