Can I or Can't I Sow French beans now?!

I checked my climbing french beans today, sown 2 weeks agos on the GH, foound they had rotted, so I will ahve to try again

My direct sown dwarf Frenchies are about 4" tall now, despite last Friday's hard frost, so I put some more in today

I sowed my runners 3 week ago there up and doing great 48 plants to grow over my arch, dwarf French went in last Thursday and mi climbing French are going out this weekend...not all in the arch

My runners have been planted out since Monday, they have plastic sheet around them to keep the wind off and are growing away quite happy, Borlotti's and french beans in the greenhouse waiting to go out

I have runner beans in pots but they are about 10" tall ... the pots were only seed trays. Should I pot them into bigger pots or will they be ok in small pots. They have shot up in a week , I wa shoping to put them out next weekend but they have grown much faster than I had expected, this is the first time growing beans!

I have climbing french beans and borlottis in the greenhouse. I shan't bother with runners again.

The roots may be a tangled mess in a seed tray. Peas and beans all like their roots to go down, so 3" pots are a minimum to start with. If you feel they're growing too high too fast, then cool them down and make sure they have enough light

Actually I found the same thing with peas - I put some in a container together (run out of kitchen roll inners) and they were a devil to seperate AND compared to the ones that had their own pot, they are much weaker plants.

Last year I got hit by a frost and had to start again, so not chancing it with early sowings. Mine have been sowed in the unheated GH and are just coming through so will go out in a couple of weeks when the likelyhood of frosts have gone and my PSB bed is ready.

My first lot of Runners and French beans are up and growing rapidly in the Unheated gh in 3 inch pots. My second lot of each were sown on the 27th and are in a propogator in the Dining room and the runners are justly nicely starting to push the compost up.

First lot wont be outside until mid May.

I've had mine in about 2 weeks now, (indoors) and they are all growing. I put them in the greenhouse yesterday and will probably start to harden them off next week before I plant them outside, I'm hoping all the frost will have been gone by then.

Just getting mine through the compost. I always sow in pots and transplant when theya re a decent size (and there's no further chance of frost - practically speaking, it'l June here.)
Still got several types of climbing french to go in.

I'm buying some plastic pipe today and making up some cloches tomorrow; as my greenhouse is full of the first batch of beans and my trial ones are doing well but I need to get them ALL out to sow the next batch....and I've got no room [boohoo].

I grew both Cherokee Trail of Tears and Dwarf Purple Teepee, fantastic tasty beans.

Never grown Blue Lake but my farther swears by them, they are the only one he grows these days.
