  • Surplus seed potatoes

Can anyone help us find homes for around 100 kilos of good quality seed potatoes? If we don't manage to shift them in the next cfew weeks, we'll probably end up dumping them.
We run a north London allotments society and we have had a bad year for potato sales. We have a good mix of varieties, and we are currently selling them off at 60p per kilo. We can arrange pick up from our Trading Hut and we may also be able to arrange delivery within a 5 mile radius of East Finchley. If you are interested, you can contact us at nfas@northfinchleyallotments.org.

I can probably find a home for 10 (maybe 20 kilos)....will to have an ask at the lottie tomorrow if anyone wants some more could only fit another five in at a push myself.

I have a friend in Muswell hill to whom you could deliver them.

What varieties have you got then?...and are they covered in spindly shoots or decent chits?

Can I echo the previous question - what varieties do you have please. My hubby (Madmax) will be working in the London area in the next couple of weeks and I would take a kilo or two if you have a type I like.

Thanks for your interest. As of last w/e, all were well chitted but not yet spindly/soggy. I'll check later today for the full list, but from memory we have red and white Duke of York, Anya, Charlotte, Kestrel, Car, Kerrs Pink, Wilja, Nicola, King Edward, Pentland Javelin. G

Have you thought about offering them on freecycle? I had some spare seed potatoes and was overwhelmed by people wanting them.

I was going to suggest that too.

Thanks again. We shall Freecyle them as the last resort, but if we can recoup at least part of the outlay we have to do so for the sake of the Society's (meagre!) bank balance. g

Some freecycle sites have a separate forum where you can offer things for sale to members. It might be worth having a look to see if yours does.

Have just come back from the allotment shop - bought 9 kilos of spuds for people on my allotment site (one of them was for me though)
They are also getting compost in - seems a good price.

They are well chitted and ready to go in. There are still a lot of potatoes left for those who want to take advantage of the offer - and it would help out an allotment shop that really can't afford to take such a big loss.

Thanks to Jenny and everyone else who turned out to buy our potatoes - 25 kilos down and a hundred or so to go ... please spread the word.
A reminder to anyone who can make it to North Finchley that we are happy to have you use our shop, whever or not you choose to join our Society. We reckon that our potatoes and onion sets sets are very good value, likewise our seeds, compost, grow bags and sundries. We are generally open 10-12 on Sundays and take orders for collection at other times. If you are interested, email me on saundergil@hotmail.co.uk.
