I usually leave mine til they hit the top of the supports, and then nip the growing tip off.
If pinching them out when they're small is supposed to make them branch out? then I wouldn't bother because I'm not that fond of runners, I only grow them for the OH

Please ignore everything I say, I make it up as I go along, not only do I generally not believe what I write, I never remember it either.

Serious now, I meant do you pinch out when a few true leave so they get bushy ?You have to loose sight of the shore sometimes to cross new oceans
I would be a perfectionist, but I dont have the time

I don't - often I don't even pinch out when they reach the top (I am tall!) but they do get in a bit of a tangle!Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

Only pinch them out when they get to the top of the canes, find they're bushy enough without any further assistance.
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
