  • Carrots

Sowed some Early Nantes carrots about three weeks ago. Covered them with a mix of compost and sand. Theres still no sign of them and OH wants to give them up as a bad job and start again. Is he being too impatient?

Well, I think so, mine, planted about the same time are just showing their heads,

Carrots? Along with parsnips - not for the impatient veggie grower! Sow radishes alongside if you suffer from this problem! At least you'll have something to look at to distract you from the carrots not showing yet!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

I wouldn't give up yet. If you are thinking of resowing do so in between the original rows without disturbing the original rows. That way you are still giving the original rows the best of chances and at the same time hedging your bets with the new sowings.

I think I sowed mine about 4-5 weeks ago and had almost given up on them until a few days ago when the teeniest tiniest bit of green started to show in the soil!

Mine have been in around 5 weeks now, just starting to appear at last in the sunshine, think it was to cold for them in march.

same here, some in the greenhouse soil, more in a large container of compost, and soil sown at the lottie, and all fresh seed, only the odd ones showing, things seem to be slow taking of this year,or we are just thinking they should be further on,seeing how the weather has changed,

Everything seems to be taking ages this season... for me anyway.
