Use Kabab sticks, pointy end out, as punji stakes around freshly placed plants or freshly laid or disturbed soil. This is a small area or garden remedy only, to give the plants a chance to establish themselves. I have 3 cats and it works for me.

Our three cats quite like the veg patch too.

The plus point to them being there is that they do deter the birds/pigeons from the seedlings.

We tend to use chicken wire stapeled to rectangular frames. These are then just raised by a brick in each corner to give a bit of room for plants to grow up underneath them..... frames of course keep the birds off too

That's a good point. Our cat does keep the birds off as well. We've only had pigeon damage once in the 9 years we've been here and she catches lots of mice, rats and shrews, so I've never had a problem with damage from any of them.

Of course that's tempered by al the little presents she leaves around. And the strawberry plants she digs up.

I tried the male urine today, sprinkled it all around the paths on the veg plot. Cat walked straight over it while it was still wet, don't think that works for me.

Please ignore everything I say, I make it up as I go along, not only do I generally not believe what I write, I never remember it either.

My beds, once weeded, are now covered with weighted-down paper sacks (the three-layer horse and chicken feed type) until I am ready to plant, through the paper. So far this year, my Cat has only used the uncovered beds as a loo. I will continue to save my feed sacks.

Mmm, so if you stop your cats from doing their thing in your garden then where do you suppose they will do their thing. Sorry, but as far as i can tell the best place for your cats to their thing is your garden, not mine which is what they will do if you stop them.

I agree Flum. Litter tray or the nature reserve at the back of the garden. Not my onion beds which seems to be the current favoured location

Hey. Cat's again. Haven't had this one for about 2 weeks. http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...tml#post663932
Why didn't Noah just swat those 2 greenflies?

Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?

Why not put a covered litter tray in the corner of the garden?

I have 2 cats and the thought of having a tray indoors frankly repulses me no matter how hard they are marketed!

If they have a nice clean litter tray provided outside they might that use instead of your beds?

Apparently "Fish blood and bone" is a good fertilizer.
Could try using "Cat blood and bone"

Perhaps I should stay out of this post as my opinions on cats is extreme.
I could rant on about them all day.
                            So that's my last word.

I use kabab/barbi sticks as Punji Stakes all around freshly planted, at different angles, same effect as with Flummery,s method. Its cheap and removable but watch out when weeding.
