I look at it this way

1.Snip seeds dont keep,so those you dont sow should be ditched befor next year

2.If there is nothing it the gap nothing will grow

3.If the seeds in the packet it wont grow

I have a lovely line of snips. Unfortunately the mole thought so too, cos i have a line of raised soil travelling the whole length of the snip row. It looks like the san andreas fault. Not amused, i used to like those fluffy little creatures. Opinions change !!!

Mine are starting to come through nicely, am very pleased with my pinch of seed per station policy this year for both parsnips and carrots, is making any thinning much easier.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I've a confession. I've been a little bit naughty. I gave mina a good watering, then carefully teased out the thinnings , dibbed a hole with a narrow stick and transplanted them in some of the gaps. It'll be interesting to see what transpires. .....

The pre- chitted ones are up but the others - no sign. I sowed them much earlier last year (was told by veteran it was too early) and we had loads - too many. In fact I dug the last of them out of the 'clamp' today. I'm sick of them really I am. I thought I'd leave it later this year and look what happens. Nowt.

I've been weeding parnsip seedlings out for the past couple of weeks. I really need to label them more clearerly, EVERYTIME I'm weeding, I pull at least two up before I notice what they are, grr!!! Think I'm down to 10 odd now, from 1/2 a pack of seeds

I've got some in a container - huge leafy uppers, tiny, practically nonexistent roots - is there a possibility that I could get some seeds from these?

It's typical really - gap sowed some more snips the other day and NOW lots of the original sowings are popping up . That means a lot of thinning out someday soon and I hate thinning - it feels like I'm wasting food .

I did this last year to fill 4 or 5 gaps. The results were submitted to rudest vegetable competions. They tend to fork, but they still tast very nice

Am I wasting my time....These parsnips were planted in my homemade root trainer ie morrisons flower pots with the bottom cut off. Even if they don't end up edible they look pretty. Dontcha think?

I couldn't bring myself to thin last year. Got loads of vastly varying sizes. They seem to push each other apart. No thinning. Tis seed murder.

                              Take heart fellow parsnip growers.

With what appeared to be a poor showing in the parsnip front after 2 sowings (12 seedlings over 5 rows ), I put 'sow more snips' on my list of 'Jobs for tomorrow' (on Tuesday night). Then a tummy bug laid me low yesterday and today but I did take a stroll upto the raised beds at the end of the garden, late this afternoon and low and behold more little parsnips have popped up in each row, including 4 in one row where there hadn't been any through at all .

I did gap sow in 4 of the rows at the beginning of May but the row where there were none had been sown at the start of April.

                              All the best
