    Hi Binley
I have done my first batch of carrots in loo rolls. They are through and looking good just sowed another batch.

Chitting was a success. Had a quick peek and the majority have germinated. Will carefully plant up. What size pots should I use?

If you haven't already done it Nilling I can only tell you what I did and I am no expert. I put the white chit facing downwards into a small hole in a 3"-5" pot (in foreign I think that's 7.5cm - 10.5cm). Draw the compost back over the seed. Leave for about a week and they should pop out of the compost. They look like grass initially but soon thicken up. Good Luck. PS don't forget when planting them out that they should be in blocks to aid pollination. Hope that helps.
I hung back thinking another more experience grape would post but sorry - you got me!!

Sanjo - sounds about right to me!
I potted my chitted sweetcorn into the tops of loo rolls and long fibre pots - they will be planted out in those.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Aw bugger planted the chitted seed upside down - root uppermost <facepalm> - should read posts thoroughly ...

I tried seeds in pots with freezer bag over the top and 50% germinated. Looks like I may just get a crop this year

Still struggling!!! First lot with rubbishy germination which went straight into rootrainers and second lot on the damp kitchen towels - still only 50% shoots which have now all shrivelled up and died....third time lucky????
If it ain't broke...fix it til it is!

Not a massive problem Nilling. Carefully tip the pot out and re-do them. Don't tip from a height, just gently turn the compost out and retrieve the corn and stick it back in with the root down. They won't have been in the pot long enough to have established, so go on, give it a go.

W33blegurl, did you keep the kitchen towel damp. They shouldn't have shrivelled. I "sandwich" my seed between damp folded kitchen roll and then into a small plastic tub with a lid on, but you do have to check it every couple of days (well I did anyway) to make sure that it isn't going mouldy. If you have an airing cupboard or radiator or propagator just pop the box in and leave it a few days before you check. I let mine grow to nearly 1/2" before I had time to do anything with them. Hope that helps

I bought a cheap heated propagator a couple of years ago.

Bung the sweetcorn seeds in loo roll centres filled with compost and bung them in the propagator.
