Chillies - pot size/pot bound etc?

Last season when I first joined here I had an apache chilli plant, in i'd guess a 5" pot, it grew say 12" tall, and produced LOADS of chillies..

This year i'm growing a few (cayenne, bolivian rainbow and another one I can't remember) - just wondered if they do well being potbound? What size pot should I aim for as a final one, I'd like a cayenne and bolivian indoors, and then the rest outdoors (have quite a lot of em growing atm!).

nope, nor me.. I didnt last year and still had loads of fruit.. We'll see how this years turn out. May do a trial!

Someone on here suggested last year that you keep them in a fairly small pot until they are flowering, then at the last minute pot them on into large pots. I tried this and it worked a treat -- more (and bigger, hotter) chillis from bigger final pots.

I thought you had to not be overly nice to chillies, keep them in smallish pots, don't feed to well or water too often. I did that last year and it worked well

Mine go in the tunnel, staright into the ground, and other than staking they get not much else - a good drink once a week and that's it .
However, they do grow to about 3 - 4ft high so you would need quite a large pot if you are going down that route.

i pot them up to about 10" pots. i try to let them look dry before watering and have a fair bit of success.

I usually germinate 3 seeds in a 3" pot and when they have around 5 sets of true leaves repot the whole thing into an ASDA flower bucket. They grow fine ( Habs i'll put 2 to a pot) and give loads of chillis. Water sparingly and I never feed them as it dilutes the taste and heat................try it yourself and find out!
