Rooster potatoes are just the dogs bollox - best spud by far - spent a lot of time last year telling everyone on the vine how good they were - they are a favourite of most of the seed potato growers up here and they know a thing or two about tatties.
Rooster should be fairly widely available - but Thomson and Morgan have them in 20 tuber packs for £3.99

Indeed - they are absolutely fabulous. I've ordered a bag from T&M too.

I grew them last year. All in all I had a poor potato harvest but rooster did better than the rest and are very tasty indeed. We still have a few left and use them for roasting and mash.

I was very tempted by Roosters when I was choosing my tatties. I think I may end up regretting not getting them. But I did get quite a good offer from T&M so will give it a go this year and plan a bit more next year.

LOL - I did the same when ordering from AlanRomans.com. I'm going to be experimenting with the 'no-dig' method of growing spuds on the overgrown bit at the back of my lottie Have a bale of straw, an unlimited supply of cardboard and access to the local riding stables for some good manure. All I need is a break in the weather, the two no-dig books that I won on eBay to arrive and someone to hold the baby for me!

I child-proofed my house, but they still manage to get in.

So much to choose from and so hard to resist Am going to ask the council to send me a current list of available plots nearby. Last time I went to view, about a month ago, there were over 40 plots available out of aprox 120 but all had 4 to 5 ft high brambles covering the entire plot just too big a challenge to tackle myself. With my ever expanding plans and seed supply am thinking now of a long term project (eternity?) and not expect to grow this year but prepair for next.

Being Irish I couldn't resist Roosters when they first became available here. I got mine from a Spud event at dundries nurseries last year where they were selling them by whatever quanity I wanted. We grew them in spud tubs - 3 to a bucket, and got about 6lbs from each tub. They were fantastic and I'm doing it again this year, in lots more buckets!! probable very expensive way of doing things but so worth it. Anyone got any ideas about what I can do with the spent compost come Sept/Oct??

Ger Annie um, the compost will be fine for growing lettuce or carrot in. Or soil conditioner on beds, or brown material on compost heap.
Beefy. I know this is completely subjective and just personal to me, but I can't stand the taste of Golden Wonder. Anybody else not like them.

I know Beefy. I just wondered if I was the only person in the world who really disliked them. It's not the kind of question I could ask my regular friends. They would know I had lost it.

Where are the Rooster potatoes on the T&M site?

Also last year we planted Anya potatoes in black sacks...no digging, could re-use most of the soil afterwards (except the bits with snail/slug eggs in yuck!) and the children loved searching through the soil for the potatoes...oh and tasted looooooooooooooooooooooooovely!
