Beefy, in southern Ireland we use Roosters and British queens, Cannot fault them.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

Last year I grew Roosters and British Queen in the garden. Agree that both are superb, but onlyproblem with British Queen is they didn't like to be boiled - prefer to be steamed - stops the potato soup occurring

I know Bramble I used to take 27 tonnes of Rooster to Dublin market 3 times a week.

Having heard everyone going on about Roosters I really fancied trying some, but with already having 2 maincrop varieties, and First and Second Earlies (its going to be 3 5' by 14' rows of tatties on No2 plot), plus another 4 heritage varieties to try (in 55l tubs in the back garden), I dont think we are going to have either the room or appetite for Roosters this year! Ah well, perhaps next year!

I grew British Queens in tubs as well as the Roosters and they were just as successful. Another of my favourite spuds is Kerrs Pinks, they bring back very fond memories of a childhood in Wexford. Even know when I go back for a holiday I see loads of roadside stalls selling 'Carne Potatoes' Bliss

Just cannot understand why people like Kerrs Pink - I know they have their supporters but I guess I'm just a bit different - I would only eat them as a last resort and certainly would never consider growing them.

Kers pinks are another potato that Dubliners go mad for .Iv'e shifted them from Ardbroath to Dublin when they cant get enough of them in Ireland.

Ok - you've convinced me - I'll buy rooster as my (positively!) last batch of seed potatoes - but from where?

Buying potatoes mail order seems really expensive due to the p&p - anyone know which shop/garden centre where I can buy them (preferably) loose?
