I Have a limp cucumber

Hi everyone

I have been leaving my toms and cucumbers in the GH for about 2 weeks now. However the last couple of nights due to the frost warnings I have brought them into the house over night. Yesterday morning 1 of my cucumbers was all limp

I gave it some water and have also repotted to a larger pot - is it too late?????

please help

Don't know as wateringwasthe best thing to do as it is usually overwatering that is the downfall of cucumbers. Inspect the stem and if there is a thin section lower down then it has had it.

thanks for advice - I will have a look when I get home. I had 2 side by side on the window sill, it was just strange to wake up and one had wilted.

Place it in a glass of water stem down and put it in the fridge. It should stiffen up in no time.

I've just been trying to work out how this would work and I've come to the conclusion you mean for a courgette fruit? I presume he is talking about a plant.

I was trying to work out how you'd put a cucumber plant stem first into a glass of water, in a fridge
I thought you must have stumbled across some secret gardening folklore.

However, I didn't know you could do that with cucumber fruit, so I've learnt something today

The title was designed to get your attention.

However - seriously -
The cucumber plant is about 1ft tall, the stem is healthy from bottom to top.

All the leaves have gone limp - they are just hanging down looking sad.

The plant is still alive and its partner which has been treated the same from seed, and which has always been next to it, looks ok.

I read on the packet you can plant the seeds from March to May - so I planted 4 more last night. Is it too late?

If the 1 last plant stays healthy I will be happy as I only ever intended growing 1 plant to maturity.

It's not too late to plant cuc seeds, only planted mine the other day as I always seem to do better from a later sowing.

Just to keep any interested parties updated

My limp cucumber is now back in the greenhouse, it has been starved of water for several days. One leaf at the very top has picked up and the plant appears to be growing flowers. The rest of the leaves are still limp. It wont be moved to the composter just yet.

Looks as if your problem was overwatering. It may be that some of the roots may have got damaged and that the plant is now struggling to maintain all the leaves so It may be a good idea to remove a few of the bottom leaves. Just keep the watering to a minimum.
