Anyone had pea germination problems

I put two rows of peas in about 3/4 weeks ago.
One was from this years packet
And one was from a different variety from a last years packet.
Only a few came up from each.
I have sowed them again but when I hoed in the old ones there were a lot of soggy rotten seeds.
Perhaps I was too early.

Also my neighbour said his had also failed.
He had also tried sowing about a dozen on some paper towel in the house and only a couple germinated.

Anyone any similar problems ?

Me! The ones I tried to germinate in damp paper towel went mouldy. I got a germination rate of 9 from about 100 outside. Not sure if that's poor germination, being strimmed by slugs or pecked by birds. I've sown as normal, so I'm not sure why it's so bad this year. I resowed at the weekend...

I managed to germinate around 40 out of 50 planted - they were Kelvedon Wonder from last year.

I sowed some Hurst Green Shaft at the weekend so can't give you results on these yet - these were a packet at half price in Wilko at the beginning of the year.

Me too had problems. The only ones I got to germinate and are doing well are the ones I started inside in modules then put in a bit pot in the greenhouse.

I've managed to chit and transplant 4 different varieties so far this year: very good germination rate too, about 90%. I now have 6 rows of peas, all about 6" high on the lotty

I can only think you're doing them too cold, too wet?

Ditto here. Has rotting problems with Feltham First and Half Pint. Did exactly as I have done previous years but lots of them rotted in the ground. Wondered if it was due to the late snow/frosts - would moisture in the peas seeds freeze and split the seeds thus creating rotting once the melt arrived?
The Kelvedon Wonder I've sowed in the last month all germinated fine as did a second sowing of Half Pint.

I hate to jinx it, but so far so good for me. Some Hurst Greenshaft and some Gladstone - sown in situ about 4 weeks ago, coming away nicely.

No - but then I sow them individually into root trainers and get 100 percent germination. I grow tall peas so this is feasible.

Last week I had great peas going great guns and only one germination falter.

This week I could not get to the allotment - but now I see the pigeons could and I have stalks!

99% germination in guttering in the greenhouse, remember peeps the ground is still very cold even the weeds are not growing with their usual vigour and that down here in tropical Dorset.

I always have pea germination problems, for some reason. I dont eat that many peas, so no big deal, but they're not my thing, so to speak!

No problems with Lincoln and Early Onward but these are fresh seed. Tried some 3 year old seed and got one out of twenty to germinate. must remember not to be such a tight wad but I can't stand throwing things away.

Field mice can also decimate pea and bean seeds I found out this afternoon, I seen the little blighters eating them in broad daylight.

Total beginner here but excellent germination for me by keeping my peas inside whilst germinating and are going outside soon.

Same peas grown outside (at the same time i transplanted rootrained peas) 2%
