  • best way to record your plantings

    Hi All

I had posted on another part of the forum, and it was removed, so thinking perhaps that wasnt the correct place

I wanted some advice on the best way to record your plantings, I have an iphone and was looking for an app that recorded where and what you have planted

I came across myfolia has anyone used this to record their plantings, seems quite interesting just thinking of the pitfalls of an online record.

    Anyway interested in opinions

It wasn't removed; you posted it on a moderated part of the forum which requires us to check all postings and approve them before they appear. There are lots threads at the top explaining it!

Anyhow - I believe that there is an Iphone app; I don't have one myself and prefer to use pen and paper, and a spreadsheet and a camera depending on what I am trying to record.

thanks Zazan, I noticed it after I posted, apologies, blind as a bat sometimes,

Yes I've found about 4 or 5 apps for the iphone but all do a similar job but not one that does everything, or if there is I's like to find someone using it.

What is that that you do want.....if you put that then perhaps someone might know.

I just really want to know what I sowed and when; and when I started and finished harvesting.

To be honest, Tick9, if it is not available on the plot with me, I lose the plot so to speak! So that rules out any computer based ones. I like paper, me!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

I'm a pen and paper girl myself. I have a scale drawing of my plot and I annotate it with what I've just planted. I have three sections in my book, Spring, Summer, Autumn and on each page I redraw the plot and put the year at the top so I can track crop rotation, but I don't tend to write dates and stuff next to it though.

I can see that a phone app is more likely to get used than a computer based one, because you are probably going to have it with you each time you visit the plot, but I still like pen and paper.

I have a terrible memory, so I take a photo of the place I have planted up, as a fail safe against the marker being moved, or the ink not showing

Something that I can add a photo to, perhaps make a drawing, and a sort of journal that enables me to write thoughts, issues, things going wrong, things that went right etc

The myfolia seems perfect, but its web based with no iphone app as yet, shame as it can track everything from purchasing through to harvest and even has a complete plant dictionary of the type, harvest times etc

No such think as a good system for recording sowings and plantings as they all require a human imput and that is where it all falls down with me.
