I voted that my veggies taste better - because I don't add chemicals and I try and pick at the point of ripeness or readiness and cook and eat immediately - so they are at their very best. Yum!

My home grown hasn't been handled by many, transported for miles, or left sitting in a supermarket for goodness knows how long. My family and I have watched it grow from seed until we are able to harvest it when it's ready, it travels but a few yards, is cooked very lightly and tastes like it should!Granny on the Game in Sheffield

When eating it I have a great sense of achievement. I am not a particulary patient person, so having germinated, nutured and grown a vegetable or fruit fills me with a great sense of achievement. I make use of a piece of land at the end of the garden and battle bugs, pests and foxes to grow what I grow. Last year was my first year of growing properly and it was a fantastic feeling to go out into the garden before dinner and come in with a courgette or some potatoes and cook and enjoy them there and then. I am more prepared this year, so hopefully I will have a better harvest.
I also love the fact I can grow a yellow courgette or a purple potato, something I cannot find within local shops.

Up until I started growing my own (not just purple sprouting broccoli but most veg) you could only get me to eat any veg by coating it in mint sauce and gravy.
Now I can only eat my own without the affor mentioned and enjoy my veg for the first time in my life, it looks and tastes great and I can pick at it's best!

I think home grown tastes better than shop bought for several reasons: Firstly, it hasn't been transported for hundreds of miles therefore it is generally eaten as fresh as possible. Secondly, your own time & effort has been invested in caring for & nurturing the plant and thirdly, you know where it has come from and what if any, chemicals have been used on it. Freshness, foodmiles, whether or not its organic & time invested generally go along way in making your veg taste better!

I've voted for the emotive option but the other options also apply. Perhaps it's partly pride in having produced something from a small seed, you've picked your variety, nurtured it, made sure it has the best conditions you can give, picked it at it's freshest and shared it with family or friends. That's what it's all about really.

its a combination of factors such as different varities and the fact that its picked straight from the garden and eaten. but to me its that its something that ive grown from seed and watched it grow into ripe fruit and veg, 'i grew that!'http://pot-to-plot.blogspot.com/ My brand spanking new plot

I voted for variety. It's good to be involved in your food and to know what it is and just where it comes from and the energy that goes into producing it. It makes me appreciate what it is to grow my own, rather than just buying something chosen for the masses off the shelf.
With choice come responsibility. You buy it in the shops, you're responsible for how it got there. The Impulsive Gardener

I've voted for less transported, but really it's a bit of everything - I always maintain you can taste the satisfaction - and PSB has to be one of the best veg ever fresh from the plant - completely different to anything you can buy anywhere.Life is too short for drama & petty things!
So laugh insanely, love truly and forgive quickly!
