my pepper plants planted in december are just about to starting showing their 4th set of leaves, these were in my polytunnel inside anoth plastic growing case but have been brought home because of the cold weather. My peppers started about 2 to 3 weeks ago are just starting to show their second leaves. my peppers are on the windows. the december ones are starting to get thicker stems now , hopefully they will make it now. I have some more coming through but hv planted these as soon as the leaves opened as they seem very easy in my propargator to germate and just sprung up

    What does everyone else think.

Sounds pretty sucessful, any chance you could put some photos up for us to see?

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Hello KittyKat, yes the peppers are very easy. I planted mine in December on the windowsill and they're doing great. Here they are.

          Advice please...

I planted my pepper seeds a couple of weeks ago and some have germinated and others not. they are still coming up but the ones that germinated first still only have thier first pair of leaves but the plants are very leggy about 3inch in height. Unfortunatly I have either heat or light not the both togwether and i went for heat to germinate them (I have a grow light arriving shortly) but am wondering if they have gone too far or can i prick them out and plant them deaper to reduce thier height?

p.s. very jealous of your pepper plants Alice!!!!

Hello Xspye, Glad you liked my peppers. I didn't use a propagator to germinate them. I just put the seed tray in a freezer bag to stop the surface drying out. Other than that they've just been living on a very sunny windowsill.
If your plants have gone really leggy, I would replant them right up to the seed leaves and see if that works. You really don't have anything to loose. Once they have made a couple of pairs of leaves you could pinch the tops out and they'll bush. Good luck with them.

                I completely agree with Alice.
Replant to just below the seed leaves.
The stem will then grow roots adding support.

                Your plants look good Alice.

if you pinch the leaves out will they still growing with more leaves , is this a good idea, I have just bhad to replant 4 peppers tonight from propagator as they were 2 ti 3 inches high leaves only just opened.

more questions on growing peppers, do peppers grow well in grow bags and how many to a growbag. many of the peppers will be planted direct in the polytunnel and others in bag pots in the Tunnel.

also how many sweet peppers on average do you get per plant.

I have gone mad buying my seeds, I have all different colours.

                    RED
                    GREEN
                    YELLOW
                    ORANGE
                    CHOCULATE THAT TURN RED
                    GREEN THAT TURN BLACK
                    PURPLE THAT TURN RED
                    LIGHT GREEN
                    CREAM

                    Hope they all grow

Hello Kittykat, yes, if your peppers heve gone very leggy wait until thet have 3 pairs of leaves and nip the top pair out. The plant will carry on growing from there with 2 or 3 stems and leaves will break from the leaf axles further down the stem and you'll get a nice bush.
I've never grown them in grow bags, I prefer pots, but I think you would get 4 in a grow bag - they don't get too big. As to how many you'll get from a plant I think that might depend on the variety. One I was gowing last year must have made about 20. I was cutting and eating green pepperes during the summer and at the end of the season it had about 14 which I ripened to red. Here's some of them.

Hello KittyKat, your peppers look lovely and don't look as if they've gone leggy. Hope you get lots of peppers.
