  • 4 year rotation

Hi everyone Derek and I have divided our lottie into 4 plots.

    Plot 1:- Leeks and Onions.
    Plot 2:- Brassicas.
    Plot 3:- Legumes.
Plot 4:- Potatoes, Carrots, Beetroot and Parsnips.

We have divided each plot into 2 sections, divided by paths so that we can get to all sides easily to tend them. Plot 4 is not divided.

plot 1, Leeks one side and onions the other.
plot 2, Cabbages one side and caulis etc the other
plot 3, Peas one side and gr/beans and broad beans the other
plot 4, Potatoes on 2/3 of the plot, and the carrots, beetroot and parsnips the other 1/3.

These are all the things we really love and for the first year we are not going to experiment yet.

Advice please, when getting ready to chit our potatoes we noticed that some of our potatoes were a little damp in their bags. We also noticed that some of the small chits had a little mould growth at the bases, we rubbed the chits off and dried the dampness they now appear to be ok, have we done the right thing.

      Oh yes

Hi gridgardener, yes we do grow tomatoes, we have grown them for the last 4 years in our garden so they are always on tap when we want them, as our lottie is a 25 minute walk away from where we live (neither of us drive) so keep them close at hand (mouth really )

Our favourite toms are sweet million, they are fantastic and very productive.
We have tried tumbling tom red, but no where near as nice or sweet.
We are also going to grow the free ones from kitchen garden mag and see how they go.

As for sweetcorn only I like it, so will grow a little at home in a large pot as an experiment, will see how it goes. I am also going to grow 1 courgette plant at home as again only I like them.

We first had the lottie last year (1/3rd of the plot) let the brother-in-law have the other 2/3rds, but it never worked out, so this is our first year with the full lottie, so feeling our feet.

We last had a plot over 30 years ago and my how things have changed.
