I lost virtually all my leeks last year to leek moth, having had no problems at all the previous year. Does anyone have advice for protecting against a repeat this year? Is there a season for this little devil?

Can you tell us where you are, I'm sure we'd all like to know where leek moth is up to on it's UK wide domination timetable.
There's a very good allotment page on the web about it, Bristol allotments IIRC.
Here it is, fact sheet down at the bottom.

My allotment is in Oxford. Thanks for the tip about looking on the web - unhappy to see this can also affect onions and garlic but I reckon I got hit by the second wave of this pest, in late summer, rather than by the May-June infestation. am going to check my onions and garlic this weekend, though, and will definitely protect the leeks with enviromesh in late summer.

I had my leeks under debris netting last year, but the moth still got under the gaps.
So I cut the leeks off below the soil and they regrew: I still got a crop, just a smaller and later one (I've been cutting 1lb of leeks a week for the last month)All gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.
