Am I right in thinking your picture shows a courgette in a square foot marking? I don't think the courgette has read that book and may just need some firm talking to when it gets bigger! The plant looks fine apart from the older leaves being a bit yellow - may well be a bit of a reaction to the cold. You only have to worry when the courgette stops producing flowers / mini courgettes, which clearly yours is not doing, Lincslad.
I suggest you get something to fence the courgette with - canes or hoops of some description, a spot of liquid fertiliser and some interesting courgette recipes!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Hey Jeanied, how's this for a first? We agree. Looks fine to me Lincslad except, as Jeanied says, it didn't like that cold snap at night much. But don't worry, it was hard enough not to be killed.
Why didn't Noah just swat those 2 greenflies?

Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?

Ooops, Sarra, have I been getting argumentative? Sorry . Must be the dyspepsia.

Courgettes need to be fertilised. The mini courgette that appears behind the female flower is unfertilised unless either:
              a) and insect transfers pollen from a male flower to a female
              b) you pick a male flower, fold the petals back and push it into the female

I'm assuming that's your problem. If you have pollinated them and you still have this issue I'm not sure, perhaps another Grape might know.

I think I have planted my courgettes much closer together than you lot, I have about four yellows and four greens and they definitely don't have a square metre each. What will happen to them if they are too close together - will they still fruit? I just hate pulling up living plants.

Nik they will just arm wrestle each other - and you may start getting the dreaded mildew a bit earlier than the wider spaced ones.. Cut the older leaves off when this happens. Keep feeding and watering - they are greedy!
