  • An introduction to my veg garden.

Well I thought I should say hello properly and give you a quick tour of what I am growing! I have limited space in the backgarden so trying to utilize it successfully to get lots of produce! I don't normally grow all that much veg but have always been interested.

    So i'm growing-
(Everything below is still in the greenhouse!!)
Sweetcorn (minipop) which all germinated first time in the propergator. It's now looking like a mini forest!!

Tomatoes (Cour di bue, san maranzo, ciliegia and Costoluto Fiorentino) I lost all my tomatoes to blight last year so not very hopeful. I may try to keep one in the conservatory...

Tomatilos which look nothing like their tomato cousins!!

    Stripy auberigines

    Mini sweet peppers

    Chillis- Joe's long and Tepan

    Cape gooseberries

Courgettes and squashes (black beauty, di nizza, yellow zuchini, patty pan, yellow scallops) the squash types will be trained upwards the others will be planted out in beds and the black beauty variety will go in big pots.

    In the biggish raised beds-
Swedes, Carrots (Chantely (sp) red core), Kale, Leeks, red cabbage, Kohl Rabbi (what is this?!) and Raddicho lettece

Then in a smaller bed we have some red salad onions, mini culiflowers and shallots.

In pots at the moment we have a salad variety and chicory.

We also have a cold frame which has more salad, rocket, chard and pak choi.

Two pots of potatoes (pink fir and vivaldi)

    Four pots of garlic.

    Strawberries

We also have a russet and cox apple tree, some raspberries, blackcurrents and rhubarb.

We still need to sort out the french beans and runner beans.

I think that is about it!! I look forward to chatting to you all about what you are growing and how it is coming along. Below are a few pics- the tomatoes had been squashed in the propergator- this was just after i had taken them out, they have all stood up now!!

Lol, i'm sure your's are fine. I really have no idea what I am doing!! But everything gets lots of water and is fed everyother week if still in pots. It all seems rather happy though... a bit to happy! Its all so big and everything is trying to flower.

        Outdoors is not so advanced-

Shallots, spring onions and culiflower under the apple trees-

        Salad!

        More salad...

        Raised beds-

Oh my goodness. As the others say, I'd better get cracking! Is yours a heated greenhouse?

And welcome to the vine. (PS it helps if you put your location in your profile then a) people can tailor any advice to your local climate and b) I can blame your much more advanced status on your being much further south than me

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day

He he i'm on the Hampshire/ Berkshire border! I'll try and add it into my profile. The greenhouse has a very small heater in it... It is also bubble wrapped to an inch of its life!! I started all the seeds off in an even warmer properagtor indoors so they all had a really good head start- shame the weather isn't better i'd love to get some of it out but just so scared of it all getting frosted

wow it looks like you have very green fingers. My newbie fingers only have a slight green tinge to them. Things are doing well on my windowsills and outside my potato bags are going great too. Broadies are only a few inches tall and onions only about the same. The garlic is ok but there's not much else in my garden as its too flippin cold!!!
My greenhouse has a few successes but they are not growing like yours are. Cabbage, cauli and broc are quite wimpy, peppers are still tiny and even the french marigolds are slow and small. My only real success in my greenhouse are the yellow scallop squash so far which I've had to re pot.
                  Well done Nicki85
Its nice to be important but its more important to be nice
