Being totaly boring, because beer sounds much more fun than this.

Make a wick out of soft string and insert one end into the stalk just behind the developing pumpkin. Put the other end in a container of sugar and water and this is supposed to feed the fruit.

If you get a big enough one you could auction it for the next pantomime

Decided to plant in the ground but mature the pumpkin in a wheelbarow filled with straw. That way the slugs won't get it and if I can't pick it up at show time i'll just sever the umbilical and wheel it away!

Still, be vigilant about slug spotting - I have half-flower-baskets on my boundary wall and spend the summer picking of the resident snail population & teaching them how to fly!

Still, be vigilant about slug spotting - I have half-flower-baskets on my boundary wall and spend the summer picking of the resident snail population & teaching them how to fly!

My nephew used to bat them over to other gardens with a cricket bat. If they survived they wern't coming back for another go!

Keep an eye out for evidence of mice. They love pumpkins and I had a few nibbled last year. Found the nest eventually though!

I've tried pollinating three female flowers up til now but non of them have taken!
Maybe if I water the plant with a solution of Viagra?
