First time Ive grown toms fron seed and Ive got some lovely green ones on the plants. My question is ,how long is it before it ripens as I cant wait to get it down my throat and see why sungold regularly gets the vote for taste?

Depends on how big they are and how much sun they get and if they are outdoors.
If your lucky it could be as soon as in a few weeks,
Keep feeding them.
Don't forget they are orange.
They go yellowish then orange when fully ripen.
If you try them when they are nearly ripe I think they have a nice sweet/spicy taste.
A bowl of these and some red and yellow toms make a wonderful site and taste.
You won't be disappointed, it's a desert island choice!

A FEW WEEKS. OMG cant wait that long, have to get an infra red lamp on em or something .There in a GH and hot weather forcast for next few days.Save Red Admiral, Small Tortoiseshell, Peacock. Coma and Painted Lady butterflies. Dont cut stinging nettles in summer.
Only cut nettles grown in the shade.

Do you still plant peas and dig them up the next day to see if they are growing?

Three to a grow bag.
Perhaps a single plant in GH for early toms.
They seem to do better outdoors.
Look at grow bag pallets at my little web site.

I grew some Sungold last year in a tiny cheapy-cheap plastic house - they seemed to take ages to ripen but it was probably that the little house didn't give much warmth, also the summer was cool.
But I can vouch for the taste - they were absolutely beautiful - even if it takes a while, I think you'll be delighted with them.My hopes are not always realized but I always hope (Ovid)

Last year I had too many tomato plants so i decided to plant some out against a south facing wall. They gave me tomatoes until November.
And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

Outdoor toms are more likely to get blight, true. But you might get away with it.Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.
