Don't call it a comeback!

Visited the plot last night (and cycled there!) to water and check everything - and to my amazement, the potatoes seem to be making a comeback. I don't want to count someone else's chickens (on account that I don't have any), but I'm hopeful they might be alright.

There was me thinking that when potatoes got frosted, that was it, game over.

This is the first time ever that I've actually wondered if I'd have to did them up and start again!

...i'd even looked at the varieties of seed potato still on offer in the garden supplies shop!

At nanna's garden where I have some of my spuds, the chap next door who is ancient but v knowledgeable has some frost damage on his spuds. (Interestingly mine are not damaged but are behind a fence so maybe got more protection?), assures me that they will only be a week or so behind and that he is not worried at all.

Nah, from my reading it would take a severe frost to kill them totally as it would have to damage the tubers 9" underground (or however deep you planted them).
Within about 2 days of the frost mine were showing tiny new leaves in places.

Mine were got at last year, too and came back ok, so I was fairly confident they'd be ok this year. Poor buggers! They were really ropey until Monday, I think!

If it was a comparatively light frost (we do tend to have what resembles permafrost round here where the soil is like concrete!) it would have only killed the above ground portion. In this case they should come again from the portion below ground!
