Tubworld progress

I've been a big fan of growing stuff in tubs/containers for a few years now and thought I'd let you all see what's happening in my 'tubworld' at the moment.

Everything is roaring away now thanks to the warmer weather (about time too!) Currently there's 63 containers of various shapes and sizes and this might increase slightly till mid-season.

I have a veg plot and fruit garden as well but container growing allows me to experiment far more with fertilizers, composts etc. and try different varieties.

The pics show:
broad beans (probably sutton, a dwarf variety)
carrots (stump rooted) I also have long ones in flower buckets
lollo rossa lettuce which I use as CCA
overwintered onions planted last October
parsnips-first sowing early March

Wow!! Your veg pots look amazing!! I am in awe of your pics and the number of containers you have!!

This is my first year of container growing (well, growing full stop) and I have lots of things started off but nothing is growing anywhere near to being ready yet! Unlike yours, which look like they are thriving.

63 containers - wow! The main thing I find is the cost of all the different sized tubs and pots, then filling them all with compost etc. I keep trying to think of ways of recycling things or using unusual containers but hardly ever come up with anything so end up trotting off to B&Q to give them some more of my readies.

Looks excellent, I have quite a bit in pots on my patio as well as whats in the veg beds at the end of the garden. not quite as advanced as yours though!!

all of your plants look very happy and healthy, and far in advance of my tub city!! really glad you posted the pics, as it has shown me how close the veg can be put together in containers. also glad to see the lollo rosso, as i have some continental mix lettuce which i thought contained the lollo, and thanks to you, i can see it does!

WOW! That all looks great. I've got lots of tubs on the go, but everything is being sooooooo slow!! Mind you, I keep having to tell myself not to expect much yet as it was still snowing here last week! Up to 16degree today though, so am hoping things will start pushing on. This is my second year growing, and I'm even more impatient than last year!

Don't want to upset you but my containers never cost me a penny....every single one was found, scrounged, donated or otherwise acquired. And much of the compost is home made. I do buy stuff but normally just B+Q growbags when they're on offer at 4 for £5. With my golden oldie discount they work out at not much more than a quid each. I mix that with home-made compost/leaf mould and some fine soil then adjust the nutrients to suit the crop.

I would have used my homemade compost if us twerps (me and my OH) hadnt put potatoes and mushrooms in it that were past their best a few years ago before we knew anything garden-related. D'oh.

Still at least I now have some lovely rabbit compost that will be ready for next year! And can re-use all my pots (hopefully).

We did try asking in M&S at the weekend to see if we could barter for their flower pots but they said they re-use them all so we just looked like plonkers!!!
