Container sizes?

Now things are hotting up and I might actually get some of the tender plants out, I'm a bit stumped on what size container to pot into for final potting up. This is for aubergines (Calliope - baby aubergine type) and chillis (Cayenne and Hungarian Hotwax). I remember the cayenne chillis got a lot bigger than i was expecting last year and they were also several to a huge pot which was not easy to shift inside to ripen up the chillis.... I also have some vague bit of info floating around in my head that chillis and aubergines fruit better if their roots are a bit restricted. Is this right or have I mixed it up with something else?

So..after all that waffle, just really wanted to know what sort of size containers I should be popping these guys into!

I'm going to keep aubergines in smallish pots (~8") this year as they appear to fruit better (I learnt this from Beechgrove garden programme). I think about the same size or bigger for the chillis.

I've found that supermarket flower buckets are the perfect size for a lot of things. I've successfully grown toms, peppers and aubergines in them, as well as all sorts of other stuff.

I've gone for 10" pots, just a bit easy to keep watered (this is for my aubergines and sweet peppers). I think anything around 8-10" would be fine - flower buckets are nice and deep!

Ah yes....the revered Morrisons buckets. Unfortunately we dont have a Morrisons very near and our local Tesco just looked at me like I was a wrong-un when I asked about their buckets. Might try and make a trip to Morrisons anyway, as buying pots is horribly expensive!!!

Hi, they also use the same flower buckets at Asda. I asked did they have any spare and came out with a box with about forty in, all for free

Wow, free flower buckets, this is an excellent idea! I've been paying £1 each for builder's buckets!
