Am I Going Mad

Hi All
I was inspecting my french beans the other day, They have struggled to germinate this year.
Anyway - I saw a very strange looking one, on closer inspection it was growing upside dow ---- YES upside down. The roots were popping up out of the soil and the leaves, when I pulled it out, were opening under the soil.

I have never had this before -- has anyone else.

Yup, they occasionally get confused. Just turn it the right way and give it a nice water.

I grew some in rootrainers and half a dozen grew upside down. I thought this might have been because their space was fairly restricted and they didn't have room to cockle over - now I know they can struggle to cockle over even in big spaces, I won't abandon the rootrainer idea altogether

I always sow mine scar down lengthways on the horizontal, I've never had one do this.
I read about this way years ago and it seems to work well for me.

They eventually work their way round the right way up. (Usually!)
I saw the roots of one of my Seed Guardian plants last week. One of the chicken ran across the patio where the pots were our for an airing and pulled at a leaf. The little plant shot out with its thick white roots in the air. I've never seen a chicken scream and jump backwards before!
Replanted the bean but, as Rolf Harris would say, "The little guy didn't make it."
