sweet dumpling squash, dwarf plants

I tried a number of squashes this year in my heated propogator.
I had varying results with germination.

Specifically 3 sweet dumpling seeds were very slow to germinate.
And they are now about 1inch high and don't seem to want to start growing.
Other squashes were hit and miss on germination but the ones that did germinate were off like a rocket.

Any one else had this problem with "sweet dumpling"

Oh yes! I bought a packet 3 years ago from Marshall's. Their stuff isn't usually bad but that year and last year I had zero germination from them. I just tried the damp kitchen roll trick this year and still nothing. Either I had a dud lot (if I could be mithered I'd write and complain) or they are difficult to germinate. I never have any trouble with other squashes and the like.

Thats interesting, I wanted to grow sweet dumpling this year, and planted 5 seeds about a month ago and have zero germination, yet the regular pumpkins I did for the school all shot up....

I thought it was me!

Perhaps someone who has had success could give us some pointers??

I have been giving mine away, I had so many germinate. I've never grown them before so it's probably beginner's luck! They're about a foot tall in the GH at the moment. I germinated them in a heated prop.

Zero success rate on the Sweet Dumplings here as well, Jimmy! All the others seemed to do OK but not these.

I mean that the seeds that I've tried to grow were from plants that weren't properly pollinated - or were collected before they were mature. If you do this with the squash family you can actually get empty seed shells. I suspect I might have these. They are thin and flat.

I got my seeds from my local garden centre - if you want a packet I can send you one. Don't remember how many were in the pack, but I've got 11 left so there must have been a fair few. The price will have been about 2.5 to 3 Euros I think.

I think I'll try another veriety - any recommendations for a small but perfuse little squash, pref doesnt take over the whole garden?

On the seed packets topic was there a maker on the packet and did the garden center have a name ?

As for alternates. I have also grown Pumpkin Jack be Little
Only 1 out of 3 came up but this one went off like a rocket.

Also Jack & Dumpling were supposed to be good for training up a trellise.

im trying squash amazonka this year. it says its a compact bush variety. all 3 that ive sowed have sprouted.
