  • Obsessed...moi?

I have a courtyard, a garden, an allotment. Plus I work at 5 schools to give them organic veggie gardens.

At a meeting of one of the schools yesterday they were panicking because of all the veg that is growing and the thought that they would never eat it all. This school has 70 people associated with it.

The amount of veg in their greenhouse and kitchen garden is nowhere near - not a smidgen close - to the amount of veg that I have in my courtyard, garden and lottie. The courtyard holds a greenhouse which is full 365 days of the year and I took half of it out of there this last weekend to give the toms some room.

I have no idea where I am going to put it all; but that's half the fun.

To think that the seeds that have been sown for all 5 schools [and will feed about 350 people for a significant portion of the summer] mostly all came from my personal collection and didn't even make a dent in it - leads me to believe that I have a seed problem. A big one!!!

And that's not including the seeds that have gone into seed parcels, or have been given away to people.

So to counter that - of course - I'm sowing more today.

And, I haven't even sown the majority of my beans yet.

Onward and upward as they say.

Anyone panicking about where it's all going to go?

As my newly found gardening hobby has been more successful than I could have hoped, I've found myself with almost 50 purple sprouting brocolli plants (Sowed before I realised they were rather big plants)..20 cucumbers and 14 butternut squashes. I won't even mention my over ambitious sowings of virtually every other veg. As I am limited to planting in pots my OH has been banished to the garage day and night making me planters out of pallets!!
I will put up some pics of my ever so slightly crowded endeavours when I find my camera.

I actually admire your interaction with the schools zaz- and what a superb outlet for your very healthy 'obsession'!!!

Yes- we too are running out of places to plant out....not because of lack of space- but because of lack of prepared land.
Yesterday my OH finished preparing our new raised tomato bed- 6'x12' in 33C temperatures under our awning!!!.
Now I need to convince him to dig up part of the field to prepare a courgette/squash bed. Problem is that it's bone dry and solid...perhaps after the rains have been??

He's gone off to work for a rest today bless him!!!!!

(Our neighbours think we're a bit mad with our quantities too...250 potato plants for the two of us and 32 tomato plants...that's reasonable isn't it????)

It's the teachers that show the best change - they are a bit worried about the digging and when I explain the 'no dig approach' their faces light up!!!

            Bless.

I am having a small panic about room too.

I will be trying to shoehorn 64 sweetcorn and 30odd toms in somehow and that is without the beans and more pea's and still have not sown any P-nips and still have more leeks to plant.

I am sorry to confess I have the opposite problem, not much sowed and even less doing anything With the loss of my pretty bean seeds (which has me completely flummoxed) I have no beans sowed. I also lost all the brassicas I sowed due to the boys not being watchful while I was driving Madmax about the land. Off to the farmers market on Friday to try and buy some plants so that I at least have a chance of a harvest.

Glad to read you still have to sow beans - I might go buy a packet and see if I can get some going.

Well done with your obsession and endeavours Zazen (could you please send me some of your energy)
                  Happy Gardening,

                      heh cool.

The school my daughter will be going to are looking into the possibility of getting a school allotment, or veg garden - which is great news, it's only over the road and I was planning on suggesting that I help out when she starts there to get kids interested in growing.

My wife was saying to me (during an argument last night) that I don't have to grow everything this year, and should spend some time with them rather than being in the garden all the time, etc then all night It does kind of take over your life really.

Happy to be aboard the GYO AA. :P

OH was trying to tell me it was a mistake to order another 100 bean seeds yesterday. oops

I'm also panicking about where to put everything as I realised yesterday I still have 7 courgetes, 5 squash plants, 4 watermelons, 2 gherkins and 2 cucumber plants to plant out and I only have my garden
That's not mentioning all the brassicas, lettuce etc.... I've already planted out my beansthough so at least they have a home and as for the 40 or 50 toms well, I bought 30 B&Q buckets which will be all over the garden at this rate and the rest will have to squeeze in somewhere.

I am really jealous of all the space you have! I've got a small ramshackle made-up greenhouse, 2 small veg beds dug out of the lawn, and a patio for my pots (but really need more compost to go in the pots!). However, I've had to start giving away plants to free up some room in the GH. Planted way too many toms, courgettes, peppers and chilli's to house in there, and considering we are still getting frosts I daren't put anything outside yet! Makes me happy to "share the bug" though, as have now got 4 better friends in and around the village from taking them plants.
