  • The guessing game!

Mr TK gets his legs slapped once again!

I was in charge of sowing all the seeds and labelling them this year, which in my eyes, I did extremely well! However, all the names that were written on the labels have faded, so we have been guessing which varieties of toms are which and also which are the courgettes, cucumbers or squashes.

I was sure that one tray of four plants were cucumbers, so I planted them into the polytunnel. Not long after that we soon realised that I had made a mistake and they were in fact courgettes! A few weeks' ago I dug them out with a very large spade and planted them out into the ground. I was too embarrassed to admit this mistake earlier in case they all died. However, after losing a few lower leaves and looking a bit sick for a week, they are now looking very healthy.

The peppers and chillies could be more difficult to spot the difference for a few months!

Mrs TK has promised me some new labels and a new pen for Christmas!

    A very embarrassed Mr TK!

tis always a good game, guessing what the plant may be. I am currently playing it too as some idiot *ahem * pulled all the sticks out thinking they were dead

I write in pencil it doesn't fade at all and can be rubbed out with an eraser at the end of the season

Me too! Sharpies fade! Won't use them again Luckily I only have about 8 toms I am not sure about but the peppers & chillis are a bit of a problem. I think the two in the main greenhouse are peppers, probably...........
        Ho hum!

For the first time ever I have managed to label everything
The only guessing I'm having to do is some lettuces which were 2 types to a seedtray. Unfortunately our kitten got trapped in the GH overnight and tipped the tray off the shelf. Plenty of lettuces have germinated but as the soil was all mixed up it's a waiting game to find out which is which.

            Ha!..frustrating isn't it?
We bought some plugs from the market- sprouts, savoy cabbage, psb and the guy put them all in the same bag...and guess what?..yup- they all look identical!!
And to top it all, my OH managed to mix them up when getting them out of the bag- so now we've absolutely no idea!!!
And yup- they're all planted out now!
            Not one label in sight!

Please ignore everything I say, I make it up as I go along, not only do I generally not believe what I write, I never remember it either.

Am quite proud of meself this year - after the dwarf/full size bean extravaganza and the chilli roulette I actually have labelled everything (apart from two celery varieties and the celeriac - am sure all will be fine there! ), and in pencil (though only cause I lost my pen!). Am planning on losing track once I plant everything out though, just for peace of mind.

Hope you manage to work out what the rest of the plants are!

I have no idea which are peppers and which are chillis, but apart from that, everything has a label, so far... I don't mind a bit of pepper/chilli roulette - they all get planted in more or less the same size pots anyway

All mine are labelled using chinagraph pencil or what ever you call them. Works well although at the weekend the pencil was too soft and I couldn't write with it. Decided that this was natures way of telling me it was too hot to sow beetroot so didn't

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I'm proud of me, I labelled everything properly this year, although I confess I've found a few odd ones that have got mixed up so errr....not so proud really....
I used old milk bottles cut up with and written on with a cd pen, and lidls plastic ones with pencil....
I learned my lesson after last year

You could always be a bit sneaky like me and give your lost labeled tomatoes to your mother...not that I know anyone round here who would do such a thing
