Help with carrots

Aren't you supposed to put the sand OVER the seeds ? To stop the soil capping....
Like TS I've used MP compost like this a few times, I'm not sure it works for me, it dries out too quickly and if it gets very wet it caps.

I've also tried Mp compost underneath the seeds and found drying out also a problem.

Well we're definitely not alone with the carrot problem. Dutifully put pots with beer in and a few twigs...nothing not a slug in sight...they had headed to the gh for better pickings...munching happily on the cucumbers..we are not happy bunnies..and if they appear on our little plot, well !!!!!
