Mosaic Leaf virus

Am gutted. This morning I've had to pull up 2 of the kids pumpkin plants (luckily enough, if you see what I mean, one from each childs' group of plants).

The leaves on the plants were speckled with yellow, so I decided to play safe. A close scrutiny of the rest of my squash/pumpkin/cucumber plants hasn't shown any other potentially infected plants, so if it was mosaic virus, I'm hoping I've caught and dealt with it quick enough for it not to be a problem.

If it wasn't, then I'm happy to have played safe. I've 3 spare pumpkins growing on in the GH but these are weeks behind the ones out on the ground, mind you with all the cold weather we had there probably isn't much in it, so these will go out probably next weekend. Just have to find a suitable spot for them as I guess replanting into the places where the 2 possibly infected plants came out of is a big no no.

Just got to hope that we still manage to get some decent pumpkins grown and ripe in time for Halloween and that I've nipped the problem in the bud, as it were.

How can you be so sure it's mosaic virus? I think I would have fed them and watched to see if the next set of leaves had the same problem.

2 leaves on one plant looked the same - marbled yellow/green - and I just couldn't take the risk.

I have 6 pumpkin plants, 2 scallop squash, 4 Cobnut Squash, 2 Winter Squash, 3 Courgettes and 3 Cucumber plants planted out in the garden and a zillion greenfly (which I understand can spread the virus - bug gun will be out once the rain has stopped). In addition I have 2 Cucumbers, 5 pumpkins and 2 Winter squash growing on in the GH.

Much, MUCH rather be safe and lose 2 pumpkins now than bide my time and lose the whole lot later.
