Potato flowers

Being new to potato growing, I have to say thought that the following 2 conflicting messages have now confused me some more







Which one is it please? Before or after flowering . Or is it during ?

desiree are lates and are far from ready so leave them well alone until at least early august. Arran pilot are earlies,but they wont be ready just yet,but try pulling some soil away from one of your arran plants,this will give you some idea as to their readiness. i think it will be anther three or four weeks before you will be eating your earlies.

I was certain that the packaging on the Desiree seed tatties said earlies.
I have 3 full potato bags, all with lots of foliage and all have flowers starting but I can't remember which are Desiree and which are Arran pilot, I suppose having a furtle will have to do, all the rest of my veg etc I've been a good lad and marked up, I'll start putting dates on as well me thinks.

Arran are first early
Desiree are early maincrop

That's great, thanks for that. The Arran pilot flowers are definatlely more of a purple colour, I'll not pinch off the flowers now. thank you.
