Can too much heat be bad for the plants; I have noticed that some of the tamto seedlings i have have curled or lost shape.

Same here, mine's open all day along with the vents but I close it at night and leave the vents open. Unless you put up some netting you have to be prepared to keep removing birds.

I've been leaving my door open an inch or two this past week then during the day I've got a piece of netting in the door hole to stop the birds from flying in.

Yes, too much heat can be bad for the plants. Apart from causing them stress like wilting leaves, it can also damage the pollen in the flowers so that they don't fertilise properly, so reduces your crop a bit.

Like the others, I'm leaving mine open all the time now. As long as the overnight temperature is above 5c they should be fine with the door open all night too.

That's asking for leaf scorch. If you must spray (and there's no need) do it when the sun's gone down

I have a small 6x8 GH with an auto roof vent.
When it gets hot the vent opens and this is a signal to the Wife to go and open the door.
Even so when very hot in summer there is still not enough ventilation.
I have considered getting a louver vent to replace a pane at the opposite end to the door.
But they are quite dear especially if you want and auto one.
Wilko did do a cheapish one but I can't see it on their site at the moment.
Being a scrooge I think I will just take out a pane of glass if it get very hot.
