Help! I've been stupid...Purple Sprouting Broccoli question

Hi all,

I've done something very stupid and left some pots of PSB in a greenhouse on top of soil. The result is that roots have grown through the holes in the puts and into the soil so now the plants are stuck!

Will I harm the plants by just pulling them up and tearing those roots which have grown into the ground?

Can't you lift them carefully with a trowel, and cut the pots off?

water them very well before you trowel them out. Mind the houseflies

Root pruning, it's called! TS has it right as usual. Water well and they'll tease out.

I've dug up one so far following your tips and it seems to be surviving outside. Fingers crossed the rest will do well too.
