Am I too late to start growing sweet potatoes?

I intended growing sweet potatoes this year but haven't had time to as yet. Wondered if I've missed the boat this year?

I have some slips in root trainers which have rooted quite nicely and I intend to plant out in the polytunnel next weekend. They do need a decent long summer so want to be in as soon as possible. They do a lot better in the UK if given protection which is why I'm going to try the tunnel - didn't do very well when I grew them in the border and took up too much space in the greenhouse.

yep, i am affraid so. I have tried before and started really early in the year still no joy. They need very hot summer to grow the roots I am affraid our season is just not hot enough.

I've about 6 or so in 3 inch pots, really tall now - just chcked the bottom and roots are pouring out the holes - oops.. didn't realise they'd establish so fast. Potting on in large containers tonight.
